Show of Force

I’ve always enjoyed war movies and some of the most memorable scenes are those in which a huge show of force takes place. From Patton watching his tanks roll by to the massive fleet off Iwo Jima to the air filled with bombers over Germany. There is something about seeing power.

I’ve also wondered what it would be like to see these shows in force and from which perspective. The Germans, no doubt, didn’t like the five thousand ship fleet off Normandy. But the French citizens were overjoyed. Shows of force can encourage those being rescued and produce fear in those being targeted.

This sediment is especially true with the upcoming greatest show of force ever in human history;

“He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.” Revelation‬ ‭19:13-16‬ ‭

Jesus will be coming back and, unlike His first visit, being born in a manger, this visit will be an awesome display of power and glory. Many won’t be happy to see His return, but those who put their trust in Him will, indeed, be greatly encouraged. His return will signal the end of the struggle and the beginning of perfect eternity;

“Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”” Revelation‬ ‭21:1-8‬ ‭

This awesome show of force is coming one day- many will tremble, but others will have their weary souls restored. What a day that will be.
